Robert Frank (Bob) Stoos (1925-2022)
Bob was born and raised in Cincinnati and graduated from Withrow High School. He was active in the
Boy Scouts and enjoyed working on cars. In March 1943 he and several classmates went to Wright Air
Field in Dayton to take the exam for the Army Air Corps (named the Air Force after the war). He passed
the test but had to wait until he graduated and turned 18 on May 27. He trained at Clemson University,
then as a B-24 (and B-25) pilot at several Air bases in the South. In June 1945 he was on his way to be
deployed when the war ended. He continued serving in the Reserves.
In 1950 he graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He spent
several quarters co-oping with General Electric, then worked 43 years for Cincinnati Milacron. In 1962
he was transferred to Toledo as a Sales Engineer for the Northern Ohio and Michigan regions. During his
highly successful career he amassed a great store of knowledge in the mechanical and electrical realms
and loved sharing it.
In his personal life he and his wife Betty (deceased 1991) were devoted to family. They raised two sons,
Larry and Richard, and a daughter, Barbara, who was his committed friend and caregiver. He enjoyed
and was devoted to the family dogs, most recently Stardust and Drake.
He was a member of Bay View Yacht Club for many years and spent a month each summer cruising the
Great Lakes with his family. He was a Shriner and a member of the Pilots group.
He enjoyed many trips to Florida, visiting friends and relatives. He also enjoyed attending the 1996
Olympics in Atlanta with his companion of last 30 years, Susie Telljohann.
For many years he was a member of Faith Community Church, then a member of Park Church for the
last 10 years. His lively personality, sharp memory and ready humor endeared him to his friends, and his
many favorite stories of life at work and play were well appreciated. He loved vigorous discussions on a
broad array of topics
In retirement he spent time at the family cottage on Sand Lake, his favorite adventure being the martini
cruise on his pontoon boat. His wise and sparky presence among us will be greatly missed.
