Mary V. Bates

Mary Virginia Ellis-Bates, affectionately known as "Bubbles", was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 9, 1950 to the Late Percey and Betty Ellis. She went home to be with the Lord on January 10, 2018 at The Toledo Hospital. Mary gave her life to Christ at an early age. She graduated from High School in 1968 and continued on to pursue a social work degree at the University of Toledo. In her later years she became a sales representative for Kmart corporation where she retired in 2012. Mary had one union of marriage to Joey Bates Sr. and this union blossomed four strong young men, whom Mary loved and adored. She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Joey Bates Jr., Maurice Bates Sr., Aaron Bates, Emil (Brittany) Bates all of Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren, Maurice Bates Jr., D'Angelo Bates, La'Toria Bates, Maurice Bates, E'Laysia Bates, Amerie Bates and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Phyllis Boyd and granddaughter Amelia Bates. Mary's family will welcome friends and relatives at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd. at Byrne Rd. on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 2 - 8 p.m. A service will be conducted by Pastor Clifford Mayes of Macedonia Baptist Church in Toledo on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. Please view and sign Mary's condolence page at www.berstickerscottfuneralhome.com.
