Margaret Anna Loos, age 98, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully at the Elizabeth Scott Community on September 7, 2017. Margaret was the first of three children, born November 1, 1918 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Rev. Carl T. Roeck and Clara M. Roeck. The family later relocated to Piqua, Ohio before finally settling in Toledo, Ohio. Rev. Roeck was pastor of Salem United Church of Christ and his wife, Clara, was the organist and choir director until their retirements. Margaret Graduated from Libbey High School in 1936, attended Davis Business College and worked as a secretary at the Dupont Co. before her marriage to H. Carlton Loos. Together they had four children and she became a dedicated, full-time mother. For over 75 years, Margaret was known for her homemade meals and almost daily baking of cookies, breads and cakes. Her dining room was the daily family gathering place, where holidays were also celebrated with relatives and friends. While growing up, Margaret's girls found her to be almost impossible to beat when jumping rope, playing jacks or hop scotch. Later in life, Margaret enjoyed growing flowers to make beautiful arrangements for her home. During her long life, Margaret experienced the Great Depression, World Wars and unprecedented political, social and technological change. Through it all, her focus remained on the needs of her family. She was a model mother with traditional values that were admired by those who knew her. She will be sorely missed. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carlton, brother, Nevin Roeck, and son-in-law, Dennis Richardson. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Valerie Shinaberry, Mary Loos, Jeffrey Loos and Linda Richardson; and her sister, Dorothy Pockmire, of Southern Pines, North Carolina. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Jennifer Clark, Derek Shinaberry and Michael Richardson; two great-grandchildren, a niece, and numerous nephews. A family graveside service, officiated by Pastor Scott Kaufman, was held at Toledo Memorial Park. The family wishes to express its most sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by the staff at the Elizabeth Scott Community, Hospice of Northwest Ohio and the caregivers who helped Margaret at home. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donor's choice.
