Kenneth R. Mitchell Kenneth R. Mitchell, 81, formerly of Maumee, Ohio passed away December 19, 2014 at Orchard Villa. Ken was born on March 24, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio to Edmund R. and Thresa H. (Powell) Mitchell. Ken was a graduate of St. Michael's grade school 1948, and Findlay High School in 1952 and served four years in the U.S Air Force. Ken sold construction equipment for 20 years for Omark Industries, Dynamic Sales Co. and the H.T. Moriarty Co. of Toledo. Ken moved on to a second career in advertising in the Toledo area for Shaw-Barton, the School Calendar Co., and The George Cramm Co. His lifelong love of sports was highlighted as sports director for Channel 48 where he was responsible for televising "The High School Game of the Week" and hosted a two hour "Sports Talk" program that featured local high school coaches. He performed as a public address announcer for 15 years for the state playoff basketball games at the University of Toledo, Owens Community College, and St John's Jesuit, Maumee, and Bowsher high schools. Ken was a memorable and highly-respected umpire for thirty years and his memberships included the Ohio Athletic Association along with the Toledo Metro, Maumee Valley, and Bowling Green Umpire Associations. Ever involved with his children and their schools, Ken was past president of St. Charles Holy Name Society, and a member of St. John Jesuit Father's Club, St. Charles Booster Club, South Toledo Exchange Club. Ken also served as vice president of the Maumee High School Boosters Club and was a committee member of the Northwest Ohio Holiday Basketball Classic Held at the University of Toledo for 14 years. He was also Co-Chair of the Toledo Key to the Sea Drum and Bugle Corps Championships for a number of years. Ken was preceded in death by his first wife Joyce Bailey Mitchell. Surviving are their children Joseph (Janet) Mitchell (Marysville); William (Nicole Duve') Mitchell (Potsdam NY) and grandchildren Owen, Jacob and Olivia; Arthur (Inga Schader GP) Mitchell (Clunes NSW Australia) and grandchildren Jordan and Nova; Edmund (Laurie) Mitchell and grandchildren Joshua and Emily; and daughter Mary Ann Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by his second wife Doris Jean Overberg Mitchell. Jean's surviving children are Debbie Henry, Cindy (Tim) Lenahan, Doreen Birney, George Sanzenbacher and Rob (Frank) Sanzenbacher, The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd. (Toledo) at Byrne Road on Sunday December 28, 2014 after 2:00 pm where a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
