Karen L Jahns

Karen Kelting Jahns "I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I am free! His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me". Karen Lee Kelting Jahns, wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, went to be with her AWESOME GOD on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the age of 76. It is not hard to crack a smile when thinking about her standing knee deep in her tiny fountain pond, tending to her garden or remembering her joy when she was reading to her grandkids. Brain cancer was her demise, but not her enemy, as she used every minute of her diagnosis to touch lives and leave a legacy of faith. Karen's absence from this earth will truly leave an empty spot in the hearts of her family and friends, who include: her soul mate of 51 years, Thomas Jahns, her daughter Tracy Jahns and her two children, Loren and Jillian Ramsey, her son Bruce Jahns, his wife Linda Godfrey Jahns and their three children, Tommy, Tyler and Sydney, her son Matthew Jahns, his wife Regan Mathias Jahns, and their four children Ally, Riley, Mason and Miles. Karen is also survived by her sisters, Jaclyn Kelting Sedam, and Sandra Kelting. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Jack Kelting and Selma Sutton Kelting, as well as her beloved in-laws, Reginald Barclay and Ethel Plontz Jahns Barclay. Karen was a teacher with TPS and retired from McTigue Junior High, yet she continued to teach us all until her last breath. She spent 42 years with her family and friends at Bay Point, in Marblehead, Ohio - her heaven on earth. It was a huge part of her life, and it will not be the same without her. Karen was a member and faithful servant of Bethel Lutheran Church, Toledo. She graduated from Clay High School in 1958, and was the head cheerleader at the University of Toledo, where she was very active and a member of Î" Î" Î". She later became president of the Tri Delt Panhellnic Council. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at The Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Rd beginning at noon, followed by a brief service at 3pm. Contributions in her honor may be made to Hospice of NW Ohio or Bethel Lutheran Church. Interment will be private. Please view and sign Karen's condolence page at berstickerscottfuneralhome.com
