Joan Ryder Schrag Joan Ryder Schrag passed away March 12 at Heartland of Waterville. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on December 31, 1930 with her twin sister Jean. Joan attended Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Home Economics. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher in Bedford Township, Michigan, for over twenty years. In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing Bingo, and watching classic movies. She is preceded in death by her sons Scott and Bill (Sheila) and her brothers Howard (Jean), Dick, and John (Nina). She is survived by her sisters Jean Locke and Ann (Craig) Johnson; son Steve (Sherri Horner); grandchildren Steven, Andrew (Kasey Joyce), Paul, Amy and Will; step-grandchildren Joy (Tim) Smith, Robert Priebe, and Jeremy Clark; great grandchildren Ashton, Anesah, Alexia, Samantha, Angel and Jeffrey; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive guests from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 with services on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns at Byrne Rd. Burial will follow at a later date in Westchester Center Cemetery in Coldchester, Connecticut. The family suggests donations to a charity of the donor's choice.
