Janet E Herwat Janet E. Herwat, age 84 of Toledo, Ohio passed away Monday May 30, 2011 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio (Perrysburg). Janet was born on September 5, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio to James and Lena (Schuster) Ruppel. Janet was a graduate of Woodward High School and attended the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi. Janet married Kenneth Herwat on August 26, 1950; for 17 years they lived in various cities around the country, returning to Toledo in 1970. Janet was a member of Toledo chapter Order of Eastern Stars No. 341, Scottish Rite Ladies Auxiliary, Dendarah Court of Ladies Oriental Shrine, Royal Order of Jesterettes, Town Club and the UT Alumni Association. Mrs. Herwat was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in May of 2010, and was also preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty Straub and brother Jay Ruppel. Surviving is her son, Mark (Lori) Herwat, daughter, Carol (Tom) Wintersmith, grandchildren, Matt Herwat, Kari Wintersmith, and Mark Wintersmith; also surviving are a great grandson, 3 nieces and 2 nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday June 3, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. in the First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 E. Broadway Maumee, Ohio.
