"The Life that touches others, lives forever." If this is the case, then Hayley has touched the lives of thousands of people. Hayley was a beautiful shining star with a gypsy soul who unexpectedly passed away in Cuzco, Peru on November 15 due to health complications. Hayley Lyn Simmons, 25, was born on March 1, 1990 in Toledo, OH and attended Whitmer High School, graduating in 2008. While at Whitmer, Hayley was an active member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, band, track & field team, and musical theater. Some of her numerous performances include roles in Grease, Footloose, Annie, and Beauty & The Beast, along with performances at the Toledo Repertoire theater. Hayley also participated in mission trips to Chicago, Zambia and Mexico with Epworth United Methodist Church. After her graduation from Whitmer, Hayley attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Strategic Communications. Hayley had a zest for life and a positive disposition. Her most memorable and fun times at OSU were those spent with her friends and sorority sisters at Kappa Alpha Theta and the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity; where she was chosen their Sweetheart. After graduation from OSU, Hayley passed on a traditional career right away to travel and experience all the world had to offer, and that she did. She was a free spirited, crazy, adventurous, life loving girl. For two winters she lived and worked in St. Thomas, and for five years she spent her summers working at Put in Bay, her home away from home. Last fall, Hayley spent three months traveling through Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. She was also fortunate enough to have traveled to over twenty other countries in her 25 years of life. Hayley's memory will always be cherished and remembered by her parents, Cheri and Tom Kaintz and Dennis and Christine Simmons, her sister, Captain Laura Simmons USAF, her step-siblings, Kelly LaPointe, Jamey Hardenbrook (Michelle), and Christopher Hardenbrook, and her grandmother Antoinette Simmons. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Karen and Mark Hurt, Gordon and Nancy Gilmore, Bonnie and Karl Griffith, and cousins Elaine, Liz, Emily, Hunter, Anya, and Sam. She is also survived by extended family members and numerous friends from around the world. Hayley was preceded in death by her grandparents Chester Simmons, and June and Gordon Gilmore. Hayley's arrangements are being handled by Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 West Central Ave. Toledo, OH on Friday, December 4 from 1-8:00pm and Saturday, December 5, at 10:00am with services beginning at 12.00pm at the church. We will miss Hayley more than words can say, but from this, we have learned that there are lessons for us in everything, Even the hard things. Even the things that break our hearts. Nobody knows what tomorrow is going to bring, so take a risk, take a chance, make the leap and do it for Hayley. You only live once, find the joy in the journey. Rest in peace, "Little One".
