Genevieve M Warren

Genevieve M. Warren Genevieve M. Warren, age 93, of Toledo, passed away July 12, 2014 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Genevieve was born on May 26, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio to Carl and Ethel (Summerskill) Wenzel. Genevieve was a graduate of Libbey High School and resided in South Toledo all her life. Shortly before World War II, Genevieve met her husband-to-be, Melvin Warren. Mel joined the Air Force and, during his flight training, Genevieve traveled to Coleman, Texas, where they were married. Mel was deployed to Europe and, unfortunately, was shot down on his first mission and remained a POW for the balance of the war. After Mel returned from Europe, Genevieve and Mel raised three children. A woman ahead of her times, she successfully managed a full-time job while raising a family. Genevieve worked in the auditing department as a secretary for Owens-Illinois, retiring in 1985. Genevieve volunteered for many years at the Wolcott House and attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Genevieve loved gardening and reportedly made the best raspberry jam in South Toledo. She enjoyed needlework of all kinds and delighted in knitting afghans as gifts to friends and family. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles, and had a great interest in genealogy. Most of all, Genevieve loved her family and the time she had with them. She enjoyed her last years as a resident of Swan Creek Retirement Village. Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin H. Warren (who died in 1990); son, Roger Warren; and brother, Robert Carl Wenzel. Surviving are her daughters, Joanne (Reg) Jackson and Linda Warren; grandchildren Reg (Julie DeBord) Jackson, Michael (Natalie) Jackson, and Adam (Grace) Jackson; great-grandchildren, Evvie, Gus, Sophia, and Rosie. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. A private family burial will take place at a later date in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery, arrangements by the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Boulevard. The family suggest memorials to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Please view and sign Genevieve's condolence page at berstickerscottfuneralhome.com.
