Edward L Pohlman

Edward Lowell Pohlman, 83, passed with his family at his side Saturday, March 9, 2019 at
University of Toledo Medical Center. Edward was born December 26, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to
Lowell E. and Rose M. Pohlman. Ed graduated from Macomber High School in 1953. He later
graduated from University of Toledo Community and Technical College and Spring Arbor College
where he earned a Bachelor's degree.
Highlights of his working career included General Manager for Wayne Graphics; Kaiser (later
AMC) Jeep Corp. in sales and promotion and Libbey Glass where he worked 23 years in marketing,
advertising and public relations before retirement. Afterward he also served as a Program Coordinator
for AMI (Alliance for the Mentally Ill) of Greater Toledo before retiring again to care for his loving
wife, Mary.
Ed served faithfully throughout his adult life in many organizations. Including ing House of
Craftsman Guild where served as president. He was a member of Maumee Valley Toastmasters
for many years becoming an award winning speaker including Toastmaster of the Year in 1975. He
also earned the two coveted awards of Able (ATM) and Distinguished (DTM) Toastmaster.
As he moved up he became involved in Area 9 of Toastmasters International (NW OH - SE MI - SW
ON) eventually becoming Area Governor. Later, after retiring from AMI, he joined the Board of
Trustees for NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) Ohio.
Faith was an important component of his life too. Serving on church councils at both Zion and
Holy Trinity Lutheran Churches (Toledo, Ohio). Later in his senior years he moved to Waterville,
Ohio and became a faithful member of Community of Christ Lutheran Church where he served as
a Lector for Scriptural readings for a number of years.
Ed's loving family includes his children, Eddie, Cindy (John) Knapp, Jim (Jackie) and
Kim; his grandchildren, Taylor (Knapp) and Kaitlin (Pohlman).
Ed's siblings who survive including in-laws, John (Lenore) Pohlman, Perrysburg, OH; Evonne
(Gary) McGee, Jensen Beach, FL.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who passed on the very same day nine years earlier;
parents, Lowell and Rose Pohlman; sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Pohlman) and Don Campbell.
Arrangements have been made through Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home. Visitors may pay their
respect Friday, March 15, 2019 between 2 and 8 pm. A celebration service will be Saturday, March
16, 2019 at 11 am with a luncheon following at Community of Christ Lutheran Church, 6517 Finzel
Rd. Whitehouse, OH 43571. Pastor Matthew Lash will preside over the service.
The family kindly requests memorials be made to Community of Christ Lutheran Church where
Ed was a member having attended since 2013.
Family and friendships were an important part of Ed's life as was his never-ending faith in God
and Lord Jesus Christ. His hope and dream was to leave the world a better place than when one
came into it. To that extent, he fulfilled his earthly mission and more. We are left lovingly to cherish
the wonderful memories of a kind and warm-hearted man, husband, father, grandfather and friend
