Edward E. Dibble, 97, of Toledo passed away December 22, 2015 at Elizabeth Scott Community, Maumee, where he spent the last 5 months of his life. He lived in his home preceding the care facilities. Edward was born on January 19, 1918 in Toledo, Ohio. He was the son of Leon Dibble and Augusta (Jess) Dibble. Ed was a member of the Local 7 Painters Union where he worked as a painter for 42 years, mostly with Charles Mann Painting Co., retiring in 1980. Ed was a member of the U. S. Army during World War II, serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany as an MP, in the motor pool and rode in the huge trucking operation called the ‘Red Ball Express' to supply General George Patton's troops. One of the highlights of his life was his trip on the August 2008 Honor Flight to see the WWII Memorial in Washington DC. He enjoyed the annual Veteran's Day Breakfast at the University of Toledo with his son, Bob, and his grandson Matt. For 20 plus years, he and his wife, Mary, enjoyed fishing and camping with their family at Manapogo Park in Orland, Indiana. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Toledo Mud Hens. Ed was active in the Moose Lodge 713, American Legion Post 553 and the Maumee Eagles Lodge 2562. At John's Korner Bar in South Toledo, where he was known as "Mr. Ed", he would meet friends, listen to music and play dart ball. His favorite restaurant was Bob Evans on Reynolds Rd, where he was beloved by the other guests and employees. Edward was preceded in death in 2004 by his wife of 62 years, Mary Louise (Borgelt) Dibble, his brother Clyde Dibble and his sister Marcella Wieczorek. He is survived by his sons, Robert (Jean) Dibble, Douglas (Julie) Dibble; grandchildren, Matt, Liz, Katie, and Nikki Dibble. The family will receive friends and relatives at Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43614 at Byrne Road on Sunday December 27, from 2-8pm. Also his funeral service will be held there on Monday December 28, at 11am. A private internment will take place at a later date at the Toledo Memorial Park.
