Doris M Martin

DORIS M. MARTIN Doris passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at her residence. She was born on October 21, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, to Chester and Irene (Laude) Jones. Doris attended Whittier and Cherry grade schools, one year at Scott High School, and graduated from Whitney Vocational High School. Doris' first employment was carrying food trays to patients at the old Flower Hospital on Cherry Street, the same hospital where she was born. Doris' other jobs included working in the jewelry department at LaSalle & Koch on Adams Street, as a receptionist for Kaighin & Hughes, and as a bookkeeper for Standard Oil. After taking time to raise her 4 daughters, Doris then worked at the Heatherdowns South Golf Course. Doris is the widow of Jack L. Martin, who passed away in 2003. In her younger years she enjoyed swimming and playing tennis, and in her later years she enjoyed bowling and golfing. Doris also loved to play Euchre with her family. Doris loved God and all His animals, feeding birds and squirrels at her home. Doris is survived by her daughters, Kim (Greg) Tuke, Karen (James) Szafarowicz, Lynn Thurston, Lee Ann (Bryan) Parkhill, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Jones, sister Grace Mickens, and son-in-law Steve Thurston. A special thank you to her niece, Judy Beckert, who did so much to help Doris. She was there every time Doris needed her. The family will receive visitors at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Boulevard, (at Byrne Road), on Sunday, May 20, 2012, from 3 - 8 PM, where services will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Toledo Animal Shelter, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
