Corinne Powell Colthorpe Corinne Powell Colthorpe, formerly of Wendover Drive and Meadowwood Drive and in the process of moving into Swancreek Village, passed away Monday June 13 in the University of Toledo Medical Center. The youngest of three daughters of Tom and Tommie (Hatly) Powell, Corinne was born on August 12, 1924 in Bell Buckle, TN. The family moved to Toledo when she was 4 years old. Corinne met her husband in 1940 and they were married on January 6, 1944. They proceeded to Lakeland, Florida where he was instructing aviation cadets. They were separated for over a year while he served in the China Burma India Theater. Shortly after the war they were separated again for over a year as he returned to Asia as an airline captain. At the age of 22, Corinne traveled by herself by train to San Francisco and then boat to Shanghai to join her husband. After two years the civil war forced them to move to Hong Kong where their only child was born. After a year, as the war claimed more of China, they returned to Toledo. In the years following, Corinne traveled with her husband to five continents, many countries and many cities and Islands. While quite young, Corinne was assistant manager of the Charm Shop in Toledo and later in Memphis. In the 70's she taught at Margaret O'Brien's School of Charm. Corinne was known for her perfectly timed one line observations. She was a member of West Toledo Garden Club, Lifetime member of Good Bears of The World, The Alpha Chapter Coterie Club and the Berean Church. Corinne is survived by husband Kenneth, son Christopher (fiancé) Dr. Aubrey Coffee of Clemson S.C., grandchildren, Charles and Rebecca, sister, Carolyn Patton, of Frederick, MD. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and many friends that loved her. She was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Carson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Rd. Interment will be held at a later date in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Good Bears of the World P.O.
