Obituary

A gentle spirit who always had a kind word, a smile and a story to tell, Bill lost his battle with chronic kidney disease, and heart disease complicated by the Covid-19 virus. Always as active as possible, he was regularly seen out walking his beloved dog, Freddie, chatting up neighbors until his move to assisted living in January, 2020. Bill was also a WWII veteran serving in the Army running reconnaissance in Patton’s 3rd army.

He is survived by daughter Barbara Code (Thomas, deceased) of Westlake, Ohio, Michael O’Brien (Michelle O’Brien), Amherst, Ohio, granddaughters, Lisa Scrofano (Daniel) of Lorain, Ohio and Erin Owoade (Funmi) of Atlanta, Georgia. Bill was great grandfather to Anna, Selah, Viola, Will, Wyatt, Samuel and Vivian

He was preceded in death by wife, Maxine in 2015, son David Paul McCormick in 2010 and daughter Janet Sue McCormick in 2011. He was also preceded in death by sisters Neda Badour and Mary Stoner.

He was a member of the Lorain Lighthouse Methodist Church.

A long time resident of Toledo, he moved to Lorain to be closer to family in October of 2014. Bill was very proud of his second act as the Business Manager of The Masonic Bulletin in Toledo, after a long career in the insurance industry. He was Past Master of the former Triad Lodge, Past High Priest and Secretary of Ft. Meigs Chapter, Past Illustrious Master of Toledo Council and Past Commander and Recorder of Toledo Commandery #7. Bill was also elected a Knight of the York Cross of Honor.

Due to Covid restrictions a private graveside service will be held at Ottawa Hills Cemetery in Toledo with a more formal service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lorain Lighthouse Methodist Church Food Pantry at 3015 Meister Rd., Lorain, Ohio 44053 or Berea Animal Rescue Fund, P.O. Box 544 Columbia Station, Ohio 44017.

Saw a person sitting alone at church and he seemed to be to himself. Walked to the other side and asked if minded my joining him? That's how I met Bill. Meeting before church services, bible study and eventually picking him up since his failing vision eventually made him quit driving. Lunch after church with his other friend, "Big Mike", and different trips to places he needed to go. My wife, Lorraine and I even took Bill on road trips just so he could get out. A fantastic, gentle person, who loved working the Food Pantry at the church, so we'd go together until he was ready to sit down. Bill pushed until the end. We even went to fitness programs twice a week with other church members . He wanted to remain fit. True military discipline, religious faith, and dedication to the Masons. Rest in peace my dear friend, with no more pain.

I moved into my first home community @ morningside way. Bill was the one of the first and friendliest neighbors I met. We became good neighbors and I learned that he was a military war veteran which drew me very close to him as did I served in the miltary. He was very interested in how I was doing and often ask how my day went and what I was up too? What comes to mind when I think of Bill is relentless, always saw the postive in outcomes, never complained and having a relationship with Christ. I will never forget his compassion for life.
