John R. Garczynski, 87, of Toledo, Ohio passed away April 19, 2016 at Spring Meadows Extended Care Center. John was born in Toledo to John Joseph and Mary Wanda (Urbanowski) Garczynski.
A graduate of Woodward High School, he served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. John got his start in the theater business at the Valentine in Toledo in 1947, eventually retiring from Loews Theaters in 1987. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Damascus Lodge #643, Zenobia Shrine, American Legion, and Scottish Rite among other fraternal organizations.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Sally Ann (Coulter) Garczynski in 2009, daughter Sandy Horton, and siblings Elaine Wagner and Richard Garczynski. Surviving are his daughter, Sharon (Todd) Cunningham; granddaughter, Sarah (James) Logan; sisters, Helen (Robert) Solarek, Margaret (Barry) McNally; brother, Ervin Garczynski; nephew, John Richard Garczynski; and other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home located at 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Road on Monday, April 25, at 5-8pm with Damascus Masonic Lodge service at 7pm. Additional viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 26, at 10am with funeral services at 11am. Interment will take place in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
